Vans Authentic

In 1770 rubber made its way into English society.  Mr. Joseph Preistley found that its properties proved to be good at erasing pencil marks from paper.
On March 16, 1966 Paul Van Doren and three cohorts decided to take that discovery a little further and invented what would become an American Classic, the Vans Authentic shoe.
The initial selling of 12 rubberized deck shoes on their first day confirmed the future success of the Van Doren Rubber Company.  It had created a product that would shape the way Americans would view skate shoes and the sport of skateboarding.  They mass-produced a shoe that would be sold directly to the consumer.  The idea was not novel, but its common sense approach of instant gratification was.

With its cotton drill lining a die-cut EVA sole insert was added to its interior, providing comfort and style. This classic style conjures up memories of the definitive styles that graced the feet of Europeans and Americans during the 30’s whose past time included long yachting voyages. Its sticky rubber outsole coupled with the Vulcanized bottom became the first in what would become a long line of classic good looks, which would find its way onto California skateboards and streets.  Thanks to its gummy bottom, the Vans Authentic creation became the deck shoe of choice across California not only because of its skateboarder appeal but because of its international charm as well.

As sidewalk surfing grew in popularity, so did the need for specialized shoes and equipment. And though many of Vans skateboard shoes have changed and evolved in design and fashion concepts, the Authentic has held its own among street skaters because of the shoes’ stability.

Creating shoes that always answered to the needs of the skateboarder; Vans Authentic shoe has never lost its appeal to its core market.  The science that drives the dynamics of skateboarding is always factored in Van shoes.  In 2004 three performance enhancing features were added to the Van shoe line.  “CoolMax” complemented the interior to lessen the discomfort of sweat.  Duracap was added as an answer to Grip Tape, a gritty topical adherence tape used on skateboard surfaces. Truefit sock liners were inserted in the newer models of their shoes to assist in a more stable fit while maneuvering turns.
